Railway Preservation Across Australia

A big thank you to railway preservation volunteers

Railway preservation around the world is fundamental to our shared railway story—past and present. Railways built nations, connected towns and communities, and touched even the smallest wayside home. That legacy endures today because of the tireless work of preservation societies and their volunteers.

To every volunteer: your dedication and devotion keep our history alive for current and future generations. You maintain the locomotives and carriages, safeguard archives and artifacts, operate heritage lines, and pass on the skills and memories that would otherwise be lost.

To all society volunteers—thank you, sincerely.

Here in Australia, every state and territory has devoted preservationists, museums, and heritage railways turning back the hands of time. Your efforts let people experience how things were, learn how railways shaped our country, and feel the wonder of rail in motion.

May your work continue to inspire—and may the rails keep singing.

Preservation Society’s and Museums turn back the hand of time for all current and future generations to enjoy and experience time gone by.
